Triangle Independent Schools

About Us

The Triangle Independent School Consortium is composed of admission professionals from the Triangle area schools.  Our consortium evolved out of the desire of the member schools to work collaboratively in an effort to ease and enhance the admission process for the students, families, and schools involved.

Our Schools

Independent schools are nonprofit, pre-collegiate schools, funded through tuition and philanthropy, each governed by an independent board of trustees.  Each school has its own unique mission, possesses high educational standards, and is publicly accountable to both communities and to professional accrediting agencies.  (Note our distinction with “private schools,” a larger category that also includes schools governed by religious institutions and nonprofit or for-profit corporations.)

Our Mission

In order to ensure the highest levels of professional conduct and standards, Triangle Independent School Consortium member schools operate under a common code of good practice. The Principles of Good Practice are centered on the commitment to serve as advocates for prospective families during the admission process.

Join the Community

In North Carolina, there are more than 80 independent schools employing over 3,800 teachers, serving 38,000 students.  We encourage all Triangle families to learn more about our local independent schools by attending our local events.

“Just as every family differs in its aspirations and every child in each of those families has a unique combination of talents and curiosities, the independent schools in the Triangle vary widely in their missions, methods and communities. What they all share: a bedrock belief in the power of school culture to change lives and a partnership with parents to help children become their best selves.”
